The Emberfall
The second world. It's made of floating islands of cinder and blackstone, with glowing ember rock underneath and lava pouring off the edges. The sun is always setting, and embers drift down the whole time.

What it's like
There's no night, no weather, no caves and nothing living. Just the islands, lava in the hollows, ash, dead trees, and a lot of sky.
Distances are scaled. One block in the Emberfall is eight blocks in the normal world, so it can be used to travel long distances quickly.
There's a floor far below the islands. If you fall through it, you end up back home. Your inventory and health come with you, and both worlds are part of the same save.

Building an ember gate
- Craft cinderstone. Ember rock and ash in a ring makes eight.
- Build the frame. An upright rectangle of cinderstone. The opening can be anything from 3 wide and 4 tall up to 10 by 10.
- Add a brazier on top of the frame.
- Light the brazier with a tinderbox. If the frame is complete, the opening fills with fire.
- Walk through. You come out on a platform in the Emberfall, with a lit gate back.
Keeping the gate lit
The fire needs fuel. If it goes out you can relight it with a tinderbox.
Tinderbox and oil
A tinderbox lights it for a day. Lantern oil adds another day, up to three. Rain puts an oiled gate out, so build a roof over it.
Fallen embers
In the Emberfall, embers fall out of the sky near you every half a minute or so. Put one in the brazier and the gate stays lit permanently.
Lightning rods
If lightning hits a lightning rod within ten blocks of a gate that's gone out, it relights the gate.
The game remembers the gate you went through, so you come back out of it. If it's been broken in the meantime, you come out somewhere further away and a new gate is made there. Gates work in multiplayer too, and friends who follow you through come out next to you.
